An Online Course on the Utilization of Digitally Manufactured Surgical Guides in Implant Dentistry (ITI 3rd Party Course)
The utilization of digitally manufactured surgical guides has become one of the key aspects of implant dentistry, as these guides enhance precision in implant placement, improve predictability, and increase surgical efficiency. This course will focus on the fundamental principles of computer-assisted implant surgery (s-CAIS), including digital planning, case selection, the design and fabrication of surgical guides, and clinical protocols. It will feature full surgical videos of two cases: one involving a single-tooth esthetic zone and another demonstrating full-arch implant placement using advanced surgical guide design. Participants will also learn about potential complications, troubleshooting strategies, and how to integrate these techniques into their daily clinical workflows.
The primary objective of the course is to ensure that, by the end, participants will be able to confidently design, manufacture, and clinically utilize surgical guides independently.
Required Background
This course is ideal for dentists or early-year surgical specialty residents who already have experience in dental implant placement and wish to enhance their surgical precision and efficiency by incorporating digital workflows and guided surgery techniques into their practice.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, the learner should:
Be competent at:
Case selection for guided implant surgery
Digital implant treatment planning using CBCT and intraoral scans
Design, fabrication, and clinical application of surgical guides
Have knowledge of:
Software tools used in surgical guide design
Step-by-step protocols for fully guided single and full-arch cases
Potential complications and troubleshooting techniques during guided surgery
Be familiar with:
Types of surgical guides (tooth-, mucosa-, and bone-supported)
The integration of guided surgery into routine clinical workflows
Current and emerging technologies in digital implantology
About the Course
The course has been developed in accordance with the educational principles and standards of ITI Academy, with these principles carefully followed throughout the development of the course content, learning objectives, structure, and educational materials.
The course provides evidence-based education in digitally guided implant surgery, combining didactic presentations, digital planning workflows, and detailed clinical cases
Course Format & Estimated Duration
This self-paced course combines theoretical lectures, clinical case presentations, and treatment-planning demonstrations through video lectures.
The estimated total learning time is approximately 9 hours. As a self-paced course, participants can progress through the modules at their own convenience and revisit the material whenever needed.
To receive the course certificate, participants must:
Complete each module sequentially, progressing through the course until the final module.
Complete the assessment questions associated with the modules.
Successfully complete all required course components before the certificate is issued.
This structure allows participants to combine theoretical knowledge with practical clinical applications and treatment-planning approaches.
About the Course Directors
The course is directed by Professor Dr Özgür Erdoğan, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with experience in both academic dentistry and private clinical practice, and Dr Onur Etöz, an academician with dual specialisation in Prosthodontics and Periodontology.
Both course directors have extensive clinical and academic experience in digitally guided implant surgery and regularly deliver on-site lectures, courses, and hands-on educational programmes in this field.
Their combined expertise brings together the surgical, prosthodontic, periodontal, and digital aspects of guided implant treatment, providing participants with a comprehensive and clinically relevant learning experience.
Why This Course?
Digitally guided implant surgery is rapidly becoming an essential approach to predictable implant treatment. As digital technologies become increasingly integrated into implant dentistry, clinicians need to understand not only the technology itself, but also how to apply it appropriately to individual patients and clinical situations.
Understanding case selection, digital implant planning, the integration of CBCT and intraoral scanning, surgical guide design and fabrication, and the accurate transfer of the digital plan to the surgical field is therefore increasingly important for clinicians involved in implant dentistry.
This course provides a structured, evidence-based approach to digitally guided implant surgery, combining theoretical principles, digital treatment-planning workflows, and real clinical cases. It is designed to help clinicians understand the complete digital workflow and integrate guided surgery confidently and effectively into their everyday implant practice.
